The Mediation Counsel for Professionals Online Certificate Program ("MCP"), delivered by Vantage10 Panel of Mediators & Experts ("Vantage 10"), will provide you with the knowledge and practical skills needed to represent your clients in mediation settings, help prepare your clients for mediation sessions, and properly and effectively manage their presentations to mediators so that they can achieve their objectives for the mediation.

The MCP is designed for those wishing to become professional mediation counsels, involved in representing their clients in mediation settings, and those who wish to gain a greater understanding of the role of lawyers in mediation settings.

As a 2-week certificate program, the MCP is delivered fully online so that you can complete assignments when it’s most convenient for you, all while receiving support from your dedicated instructors and interacting with your fellow students.

As part of the course students will participate in at least three mandatory role play sessions via conference call with each Instructor so as to meet the training requirements for the Qualified Mediation Counsel designation through The Association of International Mediation Counsels

Who Can Take the Program


Individuals interested in the program must be a qualified lawyer or equivalent (ex. former judicial officer).

The program is intended for candidates who are experienced mediation counsels wishing to enhance their skills in the field, or those new to the field, who wish to learn more about it, its benefit to clients and their professional practice. It is also relevant for those who wish to become a member of the Association of International Mediation Counsel.

The MCP is delivered 100% online and is accredited by Vantage10 as meeting the basic mediation counsel education training component required to achieve the Qualified Mediation Counsel designation and Fellow designation (accreditation as mediation counsel) of the Association of International Mediation Counsels.

Career Options and Accreditation

Mediation Counsels represent their clients in mediation settings. They provide valuable assistance to their clients for the mediation by:

Giving professional representation to clients in mediation setting especially where the underlying matters for settlement are complicated and/ or heated (ex. family, cross-border commercial matters)

  • Counselling their clients on the mediation process, the underlying law and the role/ duties of the mediator
  • Assisting their clients on the selection, engagement and payment of mediators
  • Counselling their clients in respect to general mediation law and the ensuing rules for mediation to their clients and assisting their clients to get the best out of the mediation
  • Counselling and explaining to their clients what happens during the mediation and how the client may be best prepared in that regard
  • Counselling and assisting their clients on when things go wrong during the mediation
  • Counselling their clients on how a mediation settlement may be negotiated (and acting as counsel for their client in that regard).

The Association of International Mediation Counsels is the only professional organisation in the world for the accreditation of mediation counsels. Its officers are qualified lawyers and/ or ADR practitioners who have strong experience in ADR.

The MCP program is accredited with Vantage10 Panel of Mediators & Experts, the Association of Professional Mediation Counsels, and meets the basic education training component required by those organisations to achieve a Qualified Mediation Counsel designation (as Members, or Fellows) of the Association of International Mediation Counsels.

Graduates of the MCP will also be automatically entitled to membership of the Panel at Vantage10 in the grade of Member (“MPV”), or Fellow (“FPV”) depending on their experience would be entitled to a 50% discount on their one-time membership joining cost.

What is a Mediation Counsel?

A mediation counsel is a lawyer who helps their client to get the best out of mediations. They advise, prepare and represent clients for and at mediations and assist the parties with the drafting of the mediation settlements. In that regard, the MCP program draws on current practices and addresses mediations covering small individual disputes to large scale, international, and multi-party ones.

Anne is the Membership & Client Relationship Director at Vantage10. She is a first-class LLB graduate of the University of Latvia and trained and worked as a lawyer in Riga for a short while until moving to Germany to further her legal studies. She was trained in negotiation by some of the world's leading software companies where she worked in account management/ business development. She joined Vantage 3 years ago to develop its membership and consulting business. She is responsible for litigation and dispute resolution funding solutions at Vantage10 and is fluent in 4 languages (English, German, Russian, Latvian) and has conversational fluency in 2 others (French and Spanish). She is an LLM candidate and prospective member of the Brussels Bar in 2021.

Matthew is Managing Director in Ankura’s Global Construction Practice. His experience is in claims preparation/avoidance, international arbitration, adjudication, mediation and quantum expert witness appointments in disputes in building, engineering, rail, nuclear, oil & gas and building services. He is regularly appointed as a quantum expert in litigation, arbitration, adjudication and mediation to opine on construction related disputes and has given oral evidence in UK litigation under both cross-examination and concurrent evidence commonly known as ‘hot-tubbing’. Who's Who Legal says: Matthew Finn is a "very enthusiastic and on-the-ball" practitioner who has a strong practice in the litigation space. He is a Registered Mediator with the Employment Lawyers Association of the UK and a Registered Arbitrator with ICCA. Andre is the structural and content designer of the Mediation Counsel Program. He has been working in legal practice and as a cross-border dispute resolution specialist for some 20 years.

Vantage10 ("VANTAGE10 PANEL OF MEDIATORS & EXPERTS") is a London-based not-for- profit company limited by guarantee.
